According to the American School Counselor Association ("ASCA") (2019), the term comprehensive as it pertains to school counseling programs refers to it's scope. Comprehensive School Counseling Programs ("CSCP") are prophylactic in architecture and positively formative in their results. Cleveland ISD School Counselors will align their particular programs with the information found in the Texas Model of Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling developed by the Texas Education Agency ("TEA") (2018). The TEA (2018) based this model on the information given and required by ASCA (2019), with a more specific aim at the counseling challenges presented within the State of Texas. The goals of a Comprehensive School Counseling Program is to support the overall development of students in a myriad of areas, including academics, emotional, personal, and social. This may take the form of psychoeducational groups, group counseling, crisis interventions, individual counseling, community referrals, bullying prevention, and career/college preparation (TEA, 2018).
